Karyn I think you should ask to see the policies and if he doesn't want you to see them you need to immediatly put a restraining order on him until you can find out what you need to do. Watch a couple of episodes of SNAPPED.

Contact the Dept. of Insurance in Florida and express your concerns. Every state is different. Let them guide you in what to do next. Read my blogs near the bottom of this page.

I think someone is trying to _ill me. How can I find out if an Insurance Agent and an Attorney are working together to kill people in our surrounding communities. Many people (young/old) are dying from brain tumors, aneurisms and heart problems.

I have known my insurance agent for 34 years and this is a question that I am going to pose to him on Tuesday. When I get his answer I will blog back for everyone. This is something that I want to know myself. Take care everyone and watch your backs.

There has been some coverup in my mother's sudden drug reaction and resulting hospitalization. Stroke was ruled out but drug reaction was suspected. The doctor was miffed but suspected drug interaction. She seemed to get worse when the owner of this retirement place visited her at the hospital. I discovered neglect & abuse only recently since I don't live in the same town. A health care worker alerted me to "get her out of there". She went from an articulate person to someone who cannot even hold her thoughts nor talk well. I can think of no other motive except possible life insurance link. So I am asking the same questions as above. She could possibly have signed a consent form thinking it was something else - she is blind. So, how do we find out if someone has life insurance on her?

First of all, if (God forbid) she passes, don't cremate. Order an autopsy performed by a private pathologist prior to embalming. This will cost you, but, it may also put your mind at ease. But, at this juncture, if there is no spouse and you have Medical Power of Attorney (even better if it's along with a Durable Power of Attorney), demand to see her medical records along with her pharmacy records. If they resist, consult an attorney and try to get a court order... but, do it fast. Document everything you do, when you do it, who you speak to, phone numbers... everything. Take photos if you can (digital cameras work really well in this case).
Regarding insurance... contact the Department of Insurance in the state that she is located in. Express your concerns, again, document everything. Ask them which way to turn.
Regarding the "retirement place". Contact the licensing agency in the county, city, &/or state that licenses retirement facilities. Feel free to issue a complaint and ask for a review of the facility. Document, document, document!!! Save everything. Get in there and photograph... tape conversations if you have to.
What you are talking about here is no joke. It happens all over the country, all income levels, all ages. Listen to your gut, stay strong, and don't back off.
Good Luck and Bless your mom.

I just spoke with my insurance agent. His advice is to first of all, if you suspect that someone has a policy on you without you knowing, contact the Department of Insurance in your state and ask them how you can look this up. Each state is different...he says. Also, most agents must know the individual and the individual must sign in the presence of the agent. He also stated that a policy like this is of no benefit to the insurance company so, most companies police themselves heavily to catch on to the death of a seemingly healthy individual. So, contact your state's Dept. of Ins., express your concerns whatever they may be, and, let them lead you in the right direction. He and I wish for everyone to have good luck and stay safe.
